Overview Juvenile justice reform is severely hampered by the lack of objective, systematic and accurate statistics on juvenile crime in many countries and in particular in poor countries. This lack of reliable statistics is due to: a lack of data collection infrastructure; poor training; lack of systematised data collection methods; inconsistent categorisation of offences; and political manipulation of statistics and categorisation of offences. Statistics and data are rarely comparable across different countries. Failure to record and strategically make use of juvenile justice related information contributes to a failure to ensure the protection of children in conflict with the law. This section of the website aims to share information on juvenile justice indicators and to collate statistics on juvenile justice where possible. |
