The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health, frequently shortened to NEBOSH, is one of the most well-known awarding bodies for health and safety qualifications, both in the United Kingdom and internationally. NEBOSH courses are often demanded by potential and current employers as a means of being assured that the person in question has sufficient health and safety knowledge to bring to their current or new job role.
So what NEBOSH courses are available? The primary ones are:
NEBOSH Diplomas. A NEBOSH Diploma is one of the ultimate health and safety qualifications available. Those that can achieve a qualification such as the NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, or the NEBOSH National Diploma in Environmental Management will have proved that they not only possess a vast quantity of health and safety knowledge, but that they are a person who is able to dedicate themselves to study and application.
NEBOSH Certificates. NEBOSH Certificates are by far the most popular of the different categories of NEBOSH qualifications, with the NEBOSH General Certificate being the most prevalent and widely held due to the syllabus containing hazards which can be encountered in pretty much any place of work. Along with the General, the Fire and Construction Certificates specialise on the hazards and safety control measures needed with regards to health and safety concerning fire and construction issues respectively. The NEBOSH Health and Wellbeing Certificate will allow managers to minimise sickness absence, encourage people back to work and understand the effect that work has on employee health to help minimise its impact.
NEBOSH Awards. NEBOSH Awards provide a good entry-level qualification for those who require a shorter course regarding health and safety in the workplace. These include Health and Safety at Work and Environmental Awareness at Work.
