1. Editorial:

In this edition of the Panel Secretariat newsletter we would like to bring to your attention a panel discussion organised by Defence for Children International (DCI) on "Protecting the Rights of Children in Juvenile Justice Systems". The objective of the event is to share information on DCI’s follow-up project to the Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) General Comment No. 10 (2007) on Children's Rights in Juvenile Justice. DCI will present information on follow-up advocacy, awareness raising, capacity building and monitoring activities undertaken at the international level and by eight National Sections (Albania, Cameroon, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka and Uganda). Speakers will include, amongst others, two members of the Committee on the Rights of the Child’s “task force” on juvenile justice: Ms. Nevena Vuckovic-Sahovic and Mr. Jean Zermatten. The Secretariat Coordinator of the Interagency Panel on Juvenile Justice will also be present to provide examples of Panel member use of the General Comment in advocacy, training and policy reform.
