The document entitled "2008 Immigration Detention Report: Summary of Observations following Visits to Australia’s Immigration Detention Facilities" was published by the Australian Human Rights Commission in December 2008. This report summarizes the observations made by the Australian Human Rights Commission following visits to Australia’s immigration detention facilities between June and September 2008. Chapter 14 is dedicated to children in immigration detention. It reiterates the overarching principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, highlights the lack of legal protections for children, reports two examples of children in alternative places of detention (Darwin, Christmas Island) and addresses the issue of unaccompanied minors.
