The report entitled "Arbitrary Detention in Afghanistan: A Call For Action, Volume I - Overview and Recommendations" was published by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in January 2009. It aims to monitor and to discuss the patterns and causes of arbitrary detention and makes recommendations for reform. There are specific recommendations relating to the treatment of runaway children and the treatment of girls following breaches of customary law or Shari’a. Available in English. PDF, 56 pages.
